"People Not Parties"
Taxes: Year after year the State fails to return money promised to cities and towns forcing them to raise taxes and cut essential services like police, fire, schools, veterans, and seniors.
Jim wants a fair and objective method of allocating how much state money goes back to your community to cut your local property taxes.
Jim states his primary focus will be on making sure local communities receive their full entitlement to state tax revenues - commonly known as ‘local aid’ - and notes the recent underfunding of Chapter 70 funds for local schools as an example.
“Schools, veterans, senior citizens, police, fire, public works - all of those are locally based and the State chronically underfunds local aid which results in higher local property taxes and cuts to essential services…that hits people on fixed incomes hard…high rates of inflation make it even more difficult for working families to make ends meet…the solution is to increase local aid and fully fund entitlements to keep local taxes down and then address spending on state programs.”
Oversight: The Steward Medical fiasco revealed lax oversight of hospitals and long-term care facilities. COVID killed thousands of vulnerable residents because of poor oversight by the Legislature and Governor.
Jim DuPont is determined to ensure our hospitals and nursing homes are safe for us and the people who work in them.
Better oversight of medical facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and others is essential for ensuring quality healthcare services. Oversight plays a crucial role in monitoring and regulating these establishments to guarantee that they adhere to strict guidelines and standards. It involves regular inspections, audits, and evaluations to identify any deficiencies or areas that require improvement. By implementing effective oversight mechanisms, the authorities can prevent medical errors, ensure patient safety, and enhance the overall quality of care provided. Moreover, it promotes transparency, accountability, and trust between healthcare providers and the public. Through increased oversight, we can create a healthcare system that is reliable, efficient, and focused on delivering optimum healthcare outcomes to patients.
Immigration: Jim fully supports legal immigration
Like most people, Jim fully supports legal immigration. While immigration is largely a federal matter, he opposes using your tax dollars to subsidize and support people who enter the US illegally. Jim is quick to point out that spending state monies for illegals is yet one more reason that local aid is chronically underfunded which in turn forces the local taxpayers to foot the bill!
2nd Amendment:
- Jim is a staunch advocate for the 2nd Amendment, demonstrating consistent support for the rights of individual gun owners.
- In the mid-1990s, he successfully collaborated with local gun owners to prevent the closure of a rifle range in Raynham, countering opposition from residents concerned about a nearby school.
- If elected, Jim will continue to engage with local gun owners to evaluate proposed firearm legislation, aiming to identify and eliminate any detrimental provisions.
Jim has publicly stated he would have been a ‘NO’ vote on the recent omnibus gun bill recently approved by the MA State Legislature.
